EveryBODY on Stage presents

In My Own Little Corner
an accessible, immersive experience

Written by & Starring: Carly Neis

Directed & Choreographed by: Greg Carruthers

Music Director: Chris Tsujiuchi

The best caregivers are the ones who know what it means to be cared for. In this award winning “outstanding new play”, Carly Neis explores the mess, beauty, grief, joy and care of an unexpected friendship stitched together by the love of music and a shared longing to be acknowledged as artists, creators, and “normal” humans. With a soundtrack of Broadway’s biggest hits, join Carly as they take you into their world, embracing the systems of disabled life, and deconstructing the ways we hold each other, even when the world continues to underestimate you.

Warning: this show deals with themes of ableism, loss of a loved one to cancer, medical trauma and grief.

Theatrical haze/smoke will be used at this performance.

This project is made possible by the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.

Access

Info

This show holds care at the center, and extends that care through prioritizing accessibility and equity throughout the space. The venue includes Gender-Inclusive and accessible stall washrooms, water fountains, lobby seating and a lower counter Box Office.

Fidget tools and sensory aids will be available when entering the theatre, and guests may choose from a variety of seating arrangements. A sensory relief space in the backstage area provides a break from the performance, and audience members are welcome to leave and re-enter as needed. Every show ends with a voluntary dance and movement party, allowing the opportunity for audience members to reset and spend a moment together in community. Although masks are encouraged at every show, the mask mandatory performance will take place on Saturday, Aug 24th and Wednesday, Aug 28th.

Each performance will integrate sensory friendly lighting, sound, and movement, however our specified relaxed performance will take place on Wednesday Aug 28th. Every performance will include Open-Captioning and we will follow up with more information about ASL Interpreted performances. An Access Coordinator will be present on-site, and identifiable by a large yellow smiley face button. For more information about the accessibility of the show please reach out to imolcaccessibility@gmail.com.

OUR MISSION

EveryBODY on Stage aims to break down stigma and fat-phobia in the arts.

Our goal is to reduce the harm done by body dysmorphia and disordered eating on the long-term health of artists and to encourage the positive representation of all body-types on stage.

As we fight for representation, we will actively seek out voices underrepresented because of race, ancestry, place of origin, ethnicity, citizenship, creed, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, and/or family status.
